The Devil’s Blood

10 Aug, 2012

There have been great expectations to The Thousandfold Epicentre, the newest album of the Dutch band The Devil’s Blood. The record was released on the 11th day of the 11th month of 2011, and the reviews from fans and critics have proved that the expectations were all met. The Devil’s Blood have been spearheads of European retrodoom during recent years. If you dig Black Sabbath, old acid heads like Roky Erickson or dark cult heroes like Coven and Black Widow, you’ll find loads of snacks on the The Thousandfold Epicentre. We’re talking large amounts of occult rock mixed with strong melodies. There is a sort of timelessness to this band as they make vibes from the sixties and seventies come alive to the benefit of a new century. Their sense of detail and finesse is overwhelming. We tried to book this band in 2011, but prior engagements stood in the way. What they could promise was that their only show in Oslo in 2012 would be at The Øya Festival.

Attention was first drawn to this Dutch band when they released their EP in 2008. Their debut album The Time Of No Time Evermore came the following year. All the way, the band has delivered good mystical rock with awesome guitars and a voice that really hits you. To quote their own press release for The Thousandfold Epicentre : “The myriad of influences, both artistically and spiritually, that creates the overall aesthetic of The Devil’s Blood takes the listener into a labyrinth of wondrous amazement and dark realization”. Or how about: “This path starts not in understanding but in confusion”. Welcome into darkness and confusion.
