Yelawolf

8 Aug, 2012

The southern rapper Yelawolf recently released the album Radioactive on Interscope and Eminem’s Shady label. This is his first real album release on a major label. This Alabama boy has by some been propheted as the next big star of hip hop, a rumour several music bloggers have been contributing to for some time.

His ability to build a lyrical universe around the dirtyest and darkest aspects of the southern states keeps convincing new audiences. His first attempt at an album in 2007 failed, but we can now finally check out Yelawolf in full format. Among the guests on this spanking new record are Eminem, Lil’ Jon, Mystikal, Kid Rock, Gangsta Boo (Three 6 Mafia) and Killer Mike.

Michael Wayne Atha (which is his birth name) was into classic and southern rock when he discovered hip hop. For several years, he travelled around in USA working different parttime jobs. All his travelling ensured broad and mixed inspiration for his own music.

He once said that “Not everybody in hip-hop messes with classic rock. There was no real element of surprise. I’m from Alabama, I’m into classic rock — it was obvious and there was no shockvalue to it”. He is known to be a great live performer giving his all on stage. This August, Yelawolf will be stirring things up in Oslo during The Øya Festival, and you can start your pre-party now with Radioactive.
