MUNICIPAL WASTE (US)
Wednesday
The thrash metal genre has had somewhat of a revival lately. It’s not primarily about bands like Testament, Megadeth and Slayer being in tip-top shape these days, but rather that there has popped up a significant number of acts that draw inspiration from these bands and have revitalized the genre. At the crest of this wave we find Municipal Waste from Virginia, who attacks the genre with just the right amount of unpretentiousness and vitality. They’ve skipped Oslo and Norway on previous tours, but now they’re coming to the Medieval Park just prior to the release of their new album. There will be a lot to look forward to for all who loved ‘The Art of Partying’. The band has a great preference for metal, punk and other forms of musical aggression, but they still fight the good fight – for beer and against boredom. The members grew up with bands like DRI, Suicidal Tendencies, Corrosion of Conformity and Nuclear Assault on their stereos. They made their debut in 2003, entitled ‘Waste ‘em All’. ‘Hazardous Mutation’ followed, and then their breakthrough album, ‘The Art of Partying’. Song titles like “Drunk as Shit”, “Thrash!?”, “Don’t Mind if I Do”, “Headbanger Face Rip”, “Lunch Hall Food Brawl, “Beer Pressure” and “Septic Detonation” should provide a clue as to the mindset of this quartet. The songs that the band is currently working on, are reportedly their most aggressive ever. Appropriately enough, one of them is supposedly entitled “Massive Aggressive”. Before coming to Øya, they are to wrap up the album recording and go on a lengthy US tour. Remember to buy a beer and warm up your neck muscles before you go to see these guys in the Medieval Park!
