ABOUT MOTORPSYCHO
More than 20 years after their formation, Motorpsycho is still considered Norway’s most exciting and productive rock band. Through a well of releases, both albums and EPs, vinyl-exclusives and CDs, they have covered a wide spectrum of styles – from hairy and testosterone fuelled rock to experimental noise, psychpop, spaceprog, folk and more. Ever since Lobotomizer (1991) up to this year’s brand new album Heavy Metal Fruit, their name has been synonymous with unexpected and uncompromising music, appreciated by their loyal fan base and music lovers alike. The strength of their recorded material aside, most people will agree that on stage is where the band really shines and shows true strength. The live version of Motorpsycho sounds big and powerful, and the songs are often longer, heavier and more hard-hitting than on record. This year’s Øya concert is a wet dream for the many thousand pyschonauts, or Motorpsycho fans, out there.
ABOUT THE ALBUM
Timothys Monster was released in 1994 as a double CD and a triple LP. The first 11 songs showcase the band in a melodic mood, while the remaining four are a lot more experimental in nature. Thus, the album is a delightful mixture of catchy and challenging. The three core members of Motorpsycho, at that time Bent Sæther, Hans Magnus Snah Ryan and Håkon Gebhardt, invited their friends Lars Lien and Helge Deathprod Sten along, and recorded the album in Trondheim during the winter and spring of 1994. It was released by EMI on their historically significant label Harvest, which has put its imprint on UK/US releases by greats like Love, Pink Floyd, Syd Barrett, Deep Purple, Iron Maiden, The Saints, The Undertones, The Wire, Can, Soft Machine and The Pretty Things.
Were really looking forward to hearing Leave It Like That, Beautiful Sister, Wearing Yr Smell, The Golden Core and A Shrug And A Fistful reverberate through the Medieval park and a large section of eastern Oslo. To be honest, were looking forward to it all. Timothys Monster is one of the strongest Norwegian albums ever, and this vote shows that a lot of people still appreciate this mighty and powerful musical work. Like they should.
