THE FLAMING LIPS (US)
Friday
The time has come for The Flaming Lips to bring their fantastic show to the Medieval park and we know that many people are excited. Favourites like Yoshimi Battles The Pink Robots pt 1, Do You Realize??, The Yeah Yeah Yeah Song, Race For The Prize, Waiting For A Superman and She Don’t Use Jelly can make almost anyone rejoice.
We asked our own booking manager and devoted fan Claes Olsen about his relation to The Flaming Lips and his response was: “The Flaming Lips at Big Day Out in Sydney in 2004 is maybe the best concert I’ve ever seen. Big words, but true. We have tried to get them over to Øya for many, many years. I can’t wait to see Wayne Coyne ….flying over the audience at the Enga stage in his inflatable balloon”. The Flaming Lips from Oklahoma City have been one of USA’s most exciting and unpredictable bands for over 25 years. They proved their ability to keep on surprising us when they released their album Embryonic last year, comprising of not only new material, but also their own take on Pink Floyd’s classic album Dark Side Of The Moon.
The band was formed by Wayne Coyne and his brother Mark in 1983. They got their inspiration from the strangest corners of the American rock scene like punk and psychedelia and maybe even from classic pop craftmanship. While his brother soon quit the project, Wayne led The Flaming Lips to where they stand today and has brought his fans Acid rock, indie and experimental pop. After being part of the underground for several years, The Flaming Lips got a greater audience after releasing the album The Soft Bulletin in 1999. They followed up fiercely with Yoshimi Battles The Pink Robots three years later. Their first appearance at a top ten record’s list was with At War With The Mystics in 2006, then in England where their fanbase has actually outnumbered that of their home country.
