VOTE FOR YOUR MOTORPSYCHO FAVOURITES
Motorpsycho will play the band’s most popular album in its entirety at this year’s Øyafestival. During the next weeks, people are invited to vote for their favourites. The 15 alternatives presented below have been chosen together with the band. In all but a few cases, the vinyl edition will be the basis for the setlist.
Lobotomizer (1991)
Motorpsycho’s debut album, and the only one with Kjell Runar Jensen playing drums. This record, with an emphasis on raw and aggressive acid rock, marked the start of almost twenty years of exciting releases and was full of hints on what was to come. Like the two next albums, Lobotomizer was released by Voices of Wonder.

8 Soothing Songs for Rut (1992)
This is a CD-compilation of a vinyl-only mini-album called Soothe, and a single, both with Håkon Gebhardt on drums. The release starts with a couple of fast rockers before the band explores more slow and sticky territory, and ends with a power pop version of California Dreamin’.

Demon Box (1993)
Double LP, single CD, and in a lot of people’s opinion the first Motorpsycho classic. Many different styles and facets of rock are blended into a delightfully varied musical experience. This was the first of many releases with Helge Deathprod Steen as an associated member of the band.

Timothy's Monster (1994)
An album divided into two parts, released on triple LP and double CD, and Motorpsycho’s first on a major label. Part one showcases the band’s pop sensibilities, while the second part consists of more demanding material. This album is catchy and challenging in equal measures.

Blissard (1996)
A more tightly knit double LP and single CD, with the band’s first hit single, Nerve Tattoo. The first Motorpsycho album to enter top ten on the Norwegian charts, this melodic release also won a Spellemannspris for best rock album.

Angels and Daemons at Play (1997)
Released on several formats; double LP, single CD, as three separate limited edition EPs, and as a box set. Both the EPs and the CD-edition entered the charts. This varied and playful album won a Spellemannspris in the hard rock category.

Trust Us (1998)
Motorpsycho cemented their position as Norway’s best and most important band with this double CD-release. It also contains Vortex Surfer, the song Norwegian national radio NRK P3 played for 24 consecutive hours at the turn of the millennium. Among the other tracks are the hit singles (or EPs, really) Hey Jane and Ozone.

Let Them Eat Cake (2000)
A more restrained and pop oriented effort. The singles/EPs Walkin’ With J and The Other Fool sold really well. This was the first Motorpsycho release to top the Norwegian album charts. Another Spellemannspris for best rock album followed.

Barracuda (2001)
Hard rocking material recorded at the same time as Let Them Eat Cake, released as a half hour long mini album. A concentrated blowout from a period when the heavier power tunes were few and far between.

Phanerothyme (2001)
This album, also more pop oriented, topped the Norwegian charts. Here, the band explores their soft sensibilities, clearly influenced by the most ambitious pop music from the 1960s.

It's A Love Cult (2002)
Gebhardt’s last album with Motorpsycho, and a further exploration of the sound that dominated the last couple of releases. Mostly calm on the surface, but with many layers and progressive undertones.

Black Hole/Blank Canvas (2006)
A double album with Bent Sæther on drums. One or two steps back to the noisy, powerful and tripped out dark rock that dominated the band’s output in the 1990s. The four years that had passed since It’s A Love Cult made this a long-awaited release.

Little Lucid Moments (2008)
Four tracks, all of them more than 10 minutes long. This is psychedelic and fierce rock for patient listeners, and the debut of new drummer Kenneth Knapstad. It’s also the band’s first release on current label Rune Grammofon.

Child of the Future (2009)
A vinyl-only release that still managed to enter the charts in 14th place, which is a testament to the fans’ loyalty. The sheer joy of making music shines through on this energetic and fun album.

Heavy Metal Fruit (2010)
A brand spanking new release produced by Kåre Vestrheim. This is dynamic, psychedelic and progressive rock, as preferred by true psychonauts, and shows a band that is still fresh and on top of the game, twenty years after they first started out. Just this week, the album entered the album charts in first place.
