Environmental work

The Øya Festival works towards becoming one of the world’s greenest festivals. We have been awarded the Greener Festival Award and the Green ‘n’ Clean Award on several occasions. Øya offers tasty organic food prepared by Oslo’s best young chefs. Each year we strive to minimize our environmental impact and are focusing on waste management, transportation, energy use, organic food and purchase routines.

The Environmental Handbook:
In 2004, we released the first edition of the Environmental Handbook on how to arrange greener festivals. The Øya Festival, as the originator of the project, has been the pilot enterprise in the compilation of the book. Most of the examples are therefore taken from Øya’s environmental work.

The Øya Festival wanted to build a strong reputation as one of the most environmentally sound festivals in Norway and give its visitors the opportunity to act in an environmentally conscious manner. The second edition of the handbook is available in both English and Norwegian versions.

Do you have any suggestions on how we can make the festival more environmentally friendly?
