ØYA'S AMAZING VOLUNTEERS A big thank you to all the volunteers who helped create The Øya Festival 2010! Hope to see you again next year… There were 1986 volunteers who participated in the implementation of this year’s festival, and the volunteers were one of the main reasons that the festival was the most spectacular ever!
CHECK IN AT THE PARK WITH GOWALLA When you arrive at the Medieval Park you will see that The Oya Festival has joined in on the Gowalla craze. If you are unfamiliar with Gowalla it is a location based service that lets you “check in” to places with your mobile phone (Android, iPhone, etc..). Built-in GPS in the phone ensures that it will determine your exact location. If you aren’t on Gowalla we recommend that you try it out. SILENT MOVIE CONCERT WITH ÆTHENOR Æthenor vs. Maya Deren at Eldorado Cinema Tuesday the 10th of August, 18.30. For you who have been looking forward to Æthenor’s silent film concert, we can now announce that the band has decided which film they’re going to play to. The band, comprising of members from amongst other Ulver and Sunn O))), have chosen four avant garde short films by the avant garde film maker Maya Deren (1917-1961). In other words, you’ll get a nice mix of new avant garde metal and good old avant garde film.
NACHTMYSTIUM REPLACES BARONESS Baroness have chosen to cancel their concert at Øya after being offered a greater tour of USA during the same period. This is a great disappointment for the audience, the fans and for us at the Øya office. Luckily, we have managed to book a fantastic replacement on short notice. Nachtmystium, who are releasing their record this week, are coming to the medieval park to blow wonderful uglyness into your ears Thursday the 12th of August.	JUVENILE ROCK CLUB IN THE GSF SKATE PARK DURING ØYA The girls at Juvenile Rock Club are yet again crawling down under the Dyveke bridge to the GSF Skate Park in the old part of Oslo, Gamlebyen. Together with The Øya Festival and Gamlebyen sports and leisure club (GSF) these girls are yet again arranging a mini festival and skate tournament in the skate park. The skate park offers great concerts, skate tournaments, good food and a good atmosphere every day during The Øya Festival. The skate park is alcohol free, and everything going on there is free. You don’t need a festival pass or daypass to the Øya Festival to get in.
GREAT PROGRAM AT THE CAMP INDIE TENT Camp Indie is the Øya Festival’s celebration of the grass root scene of Norwegian music. From the 11th to the 14th of August, you will find the Camp Indie tent situated at the end of the festival area as usual. We invite little independent labels ran by enthusiasts in proper DIY fashion that exist solely because of pure love of music, and these people work without stop all year ‘round to front their artists. The Øya Festival and Camp Indie thinks there is so much great music out there that deserves extra attention, and that’s why we make this little festival within the actual festival.

They have already revealed that Saturday night will be filled with Four Tet and a DJ set from Jamie of The xx. As said and sung before; Daaaance the night away!
DIPLO, SHEARWATER, I WAS A KING & THE LOW ANTHEM AT NIGHTTIME ØYA We recently released the first group of artists confirmed for Nighttime Øya. Rockefeller and JOhn Dee are now ready to reveal their lineup. Diplo is throwing a dance party upstaris at Rockefeller on the Friday, and John Dee presents Shearwater (picture), I Was A King and The Low Anthem. Nighttime Øya is the name of the cool concerts held in venues around the city after the festival closes every night at 23 o’clock. You get a discount at these shows if you have a valid Øya wristband or ticket.
THE FLAMING LIPS AT THE ØYA FESTIVAL FRIDAY THE 13TH OF AUGUST One of the world’s best live bands are ready to play at the Medieval park. The Flaming Lips are coming to The Øya Festival Friday the 13th of August. They haven’t played in Oslo for seven years. On the same day as The Flaming Lips, you can see amongst others Robyn, The Specials, La Roux, Field Music, Susanne Sundfør, Girls, 1349 and Marina & The Diamonds. More names will be revealed soon.	FIRST NIGHTTIME ØYA ARTISTS READY THE WHIP (UK) FOUR TET (UK) KUMAR (CU) JAMIE XX (The xx, DJ-set – UK) GET DANCY ESKIMO The Øya Festival will once again be arranging hot nights under the name of Nighttime Øya. As per previous years, there will be a wide choice of musical experiences, ranging from rock concerts to dance parties all over town as soon as we’re finished at the medieval park at 23:00. We’ll be announcing more Nighttime Øya concepts soon.
DISKJOKKE WITH INDONESIAN PROJECT TO ØYA A year ago, Øya started a project with the acclaimed electronica artist Joachim ‘DiskJokke’ Dyrdahl. DiskJokke travelled to Indonesia to cooperate with local musicians. This work is now finished and together they are ready to present the result at this year’s festival. Saturday August 14th you will be able to experience this unique musical collaboration on stage for the first time.
THE SPECIALS READY FOR THE ØYA FESTIVAL The Øya festival has always presented you with exciting and current music both from Norway and abroad. Adding to which, we have spiced up the programs with musical pioneers and other influential artists whom we highly appreciate. We predict one of this year’s peak performances will be held by the English ska-legends The Specials. On the 13th of august, they will grant us a tremendous show presenting their musical gold nuggets. On the very same day, you can enjoy performances from amongst others Robyn, La Roux, John Olav Nilsen og Gjengen, Field Music, Marina and the Diamonds and Susanne Sundfør.	Q-TIP CANCELS EUROPEAN TOUR Unfortunately we have recently been told that Q-tip will have to cancel his planned tour of Europe this summer. This means he will not be appearing at The Øya festival in August. This is sad news, first of all for the fans. We know that many of you have been looking forward to seeing Q-tip in the Medieval park. We have not yet recieved much information concerning the cancellation, but we have been told that this is a health related matter as the artist has to go through an operation around the same time that The Øya Festival takes place. As you can understand, this is entirely beyond our control. We hope Q-tip will soon recover, and that he will be able to guest Øya at a later date.
THREE HOT NORWEGIAN ACTS FOR ØYA We have now confirmed three great Norwegian artists who will each put their mark on the Øya program in August. Pop princess Ingeborg Selnes, the black metal warriors 1349 and the exciting norwegian/english/american collective Necessary operate within widely different artistic areas. Still, a common ground is that they all make music we have great belief in in 2010. We will soon be releasing more Norwegian and international names all adding to this year’s raddest festival program.
BROKEN BELLS AND THE HOTTEST NORWEGIAN ELECTRONICA TO ØYA The completion of the Øya-program is only a few weeks away. Last Saturday, we confirmed the English ska-legends The Specials. Today, one of this year’s most exciting pop sensations was confirmed to the Medieval park. Broken Bells, a collaboration between the creative forces of Gnarls Barkley and The Shins, are playing at the Øya festival on Thursday the 12th of August. On the same day we bring you amongst others Pavement, Jonsi, LCD Soundsystem, Against Me!, Panda Bear, Casiokids, Kråkesølv, Baroness and Miike Snow.	CRITIC’S FOREIGN FAVOURITES TO ØYA - SLEEPY SUN + FIELD MUSIC With over a month to go until the completion of this year’s Øya festival program, we are spending our days waiting for confirmations from bigger and smaller acts, both from Norway and abroad. This week, we were told that the english pop-band Field Music are coming to the Medieval park. Several Norwegian critics dug up their big words and high scores when reviewing the new record earlier this spring. The Norwegian music journal Lydverket described it as an ”orgie of good taste”
