You can vote until March 8 on oyafestivalen.com/motorpsycho.
TONY ALLEN AND CASIOKIDS TO ØYA
A lot is happening at the Øya office these days, and confirmations are pouring in on e-mail and phone. Nigerian afrobeat-legend Tony Allen is ready to spread good vibes and groovy rhythms under the August sun. This will be another must-see for people who loved Seun Kuti’s performance last year. Allen was the lead drummer and a driving force in Fela Kuti’s band for more than 10 years. The other name released today is Casiokids, a Norwegian band inspired by Allen. Their anticipated debut album is right around the corner, and also an upcoming tour with Hot Chip. |

THANK YOU!
We wish to thank our artists, visitors, sponsors and not least our amazing volunteers for the best Øya Festival ever. There were loads of incredibly wicked shows and an amazing overall vibe. This year’s festival was incredibly inspiring, and we are looking forward to start working on the Øya Festival 2010.
DAY 3: ACTS FROM NEAR AND FAR
One can safely say that Thursday was dominated by acts from the so-called Loddefjorden scene. Fjorden Baby!, Ungdomskulen, The New Wine and John Olav Nilsen were all on the Thursday bill, which also contained acts from – among other places – Nigeria, Scotland, England, the US and Sweden. Here’s a report from the second festival day in the Medieval Park, which held everything from ardent Afro beat to art rock and a laser show. |
DAY 2: SUNSHINE AND RAIN
Jaga Jazzist, Bon Iver, Kåre & The Cavemen, Band of Horses, Vampire Weekend, The Bronx, Kylesa, Rise Against and Crystal Antlers. The first day of the Øya Festival 2009 had a little bit of something for everyone – also weatherwise. The Øya web editorial staff went to gigs all through the day—here’s the report. |

CHECK OUT THE PHOTO GALLERY!
Are you wondering what the first day at Øya was like? Are you curious about what the 2009 edition of Jaga Jazzist looks like? Check out our photo gallery and have a look at some exclusive live and mood pics taken by the outstanding Øya photo team. Who knows, maybe you’re in one of ‘em! You’ll find the photos under Gallery on the menu to the left.
AVOID THE QUEUE AT THE ENTRANCE
Being stuck in a line outside the festival area just as your favorite band goes on stage is never fun. If you have already exchanged your ticket for a wrist band, you can use our so-called Fast Lane and thereby avoid having to stand in line needlessly during the festival. The easiest way to exchange your ticket for a wrist band is to visit our ticket and accreditation stand on Youngstorget (right in the centre of the city) on Monday or Tuesday. There you will find a big tent and a lot of nice people standing ready to assist you. |
LAST CHANCE TO BUY DAY PASSES
As in previous years, the Øya Festival will be selling a small number of day passes at the entrance to the festival area. We do this as a countermeasure to black marketeering and to make a small offer to those who never got around to buying a pass in the first place. A minimum of 50 day passes will be put out for sale every day. These will be sold at the ticket stand outside the Medieval Park from 11 a.m. every day. |
