During this year's Øya Festival, Jaga Jazzist will perform material from their upcoming album live for the first time ever. This is one of only two chances you'll get to see Jaga live in Norway this summer; their other performance will be at Molde Jazz Festival. As reported in national newspaper Dagbladet earlier this week, Jaga Jazzist intends to spend the fees from these two concerts on the completion of their next release. Don't miss out on this opportunity to see one of Norway's most exciting acts live!

We're now adding four solid acts to our already varied bill. Unfortunately, Beirut was forced to cancel last year, but the band is set on making it up to us this year. We know they will be met with a lot of excitement when they enter a Norwegian stage for the first time, as Beirut is one of the most frequently mentioned and sought after names in our web forum. With today's release we've added nine new acts to the Øya bill this week alone - and we're far from done with this year's bill. Earlier this week we've released Wilco (US), Band of Horses (US), Jay Reatard (US) and Erol Alkan (UK).

Reactions have been nothing but positive. Ticket sales soared this week, and to top it all off we blast off into the weekend by detonating a solid power package of Norwegian artists:

TØNES (N) / MAGNUS MORIARTY (N) / HARRYS GYM (N) / PONY THE PIRATE (N) / UNGDOMSKULEN (N)

Over the past couple of years we've enjoyed visits from grand names like Justice, Diplo and Girl Talk. This year, Erol Alkan will be among the acts responsible for making sure that we all have a good ol' time out on the dance floor.

Stay tuned for a big release tomorrow featuring Norwegian acts!

We got word on Thursday that Kid Sister won’t be coming to Norway next week, and that A-Trak also will be staying home. The reason is that they’ve chosen to focus on recording Kid Sister’s new album instead of coming to play at the Øya Festival. This is sad news for all those who looked forward to their joint appearance on the Sjøsiden stage Friday Aug. 8, as well as A-Trak’s solo performance at Parkteateret. Our booking crew has worked hard to find a suitable replacement, but rest easy: they’ve found you The Bug feat. Warrior Queen and Flowdan.

Now they've decided to work together again, on the occasion of the Øya Festival in August. In 2008, the Øya Festival will present many groovy Nighttime Øya concepts. Nighttime Øya refers to several parties and concerts taking place throughout Oslo during the festival, after the main festival area closes at 11 p.m. In cooperation with our good friends and partners we've booked some hot acts and DJs to keep the festival groove going into the night for as long as you can manage to stay on your feet. Today we're releasing the first tidbits for this year's Nighttime Øya events. A valid Øya wrist band will grant you a discount at each of these events/venues.

We felt that it was time that the boys – who've currently sold about 30.000 copies of their fourth album, 'Maskineri' – paid us another visit. Kaizers Orchestra will perform on our biggest stage on Wednesday Aug. 6, the same day as *Nick Cave and his Grinderman*, *Iron & Wine*, *José Gonzales*, *Girl Talk*, and *The Mae Shi* are due to play the Medieval Park. Dark Meat represents an extraordinary concert experience. The line-up is extensive, and there's an abundance of musical impressions. Sometimes they come across as a marriage between Black Mountain and Polyphonic Spree, other times as the weird cousins of Mudhoney and Devendra Banhart. Listen to the freedom rocker "Freedom Ritual" or the violent "One More Trip" if you need convincing. This is Flower Child rock of the most exquisite quality. This band is a festival band with a capital F, and you don't wanna miss 'em at this year's Øya Festival.

On April 21 The Night Marchers' debut album, 'See You in Magic', will be out on guitarist and singer John "Speedo" Reis' own Swami Records. On it are thirteen tracks of out-of-control, pedal to the metal, punk-energized rock'n'roll. In other words, this is sweaty and catchy rock of the finest brand. These boys have backgrounds in Rocket From The Crypt, Drive Like Jehu, Sultans, Mule, Delta 72, Bardo Pond, and Beehive & The Barracudas, and CPC Gangbangs. The new album of American act The Dodos, 'Visiter' (French Kiss Records), might very well become one of the biggest album surprises this year, according to the Øya booking crew. The duo consists of guitarist/singer Meric Long and the eager percussionist Logan Kroeber, who both wanted to make psychedelia-sprinkled folk and pop. Their music never becomes just weary string plucking, as they're not afraid kick it into high gear, both energy- and tempo-wise.

Fleet Foxes say they're into "baroque harmonic pop jams". Just what they mean by that you can find out for yourself by checking out the EPs 'Fleet Foxes' (2006) and 'Sun Giant' (2008). In early June they'll be out with the album 'Ragged Wood' on legendary label SubPop in the US and the amazing Bella Union in Europe. Two months later they'll be making their Norwegian live debut at the Øya Festival.

Tomorrow, yet another hot act will be added to the Øya bill.

The Øya Festival has always been about new music, but every year we've made a point of offering our audience some of the pioneers within different genres of rock, or, in other words, artists that are a major reason why current music sounds the way it does.

Several people here at the Øya office suffered a serious shock and began hyperventilating after we got word late last night that My Bloody Valentine will be coming to the Medieval Park in August.

Next Tuesday, Feb. 5, Day Passes for Friday Aug. 8 will be made available – and that, all ye shoegazers, is the date on which My Bloody Valentine will perform at Øya.

American DJs Diplo and Girl Talk will get you dancing the park, and Holy Fuck from Canada will offer some surprising and wicked electro fun.

The Øya Festival has managed to get one of Norway's greatest bands back on stage this summer. You'll do well not to miss the exclusive reunion of Kung Fu Girls in August. For many years we have wanted to see this band back together, and for the first time since May 1995 they are now ready to deliver a kick-ass set of energetic, high-voltage rock. The band will be rehearsing like heck to be ready and in tip-top shape for their first gig in more than 13 years. We know that a lot of people are looking forward to this!

"I've wished for this ever since we started up back in 1999," says Claes Olsen, head of booking.

The past year, The National has ruled the charts in Spin, Q, Pitchfork, and Uncut. Clear your calendar the second weekend in August, because then The National is coming to the Øya Festival.

A new video from last year's Øya Festival is now available on our "MySpace page!":http://www.myspace.com/oyafestival Most of the video is recorded on 8mm cameras that we handed out to the audience and a few bands and artists, such as Coco Rosie and Eagles of Death Metal.

If you take a look around at our MySpace page, you'll find a playlist that features tidbits from artists we think will make a strong imprint on the 2008 music scene – as well as music we simply just like very much.

With exclusive Øya 2007 artists like Justice, CocoRosie, and Yo Majesty in front of his camera, Stian Andersen has made us forget the winter cold. Gone is everything that reminds us of the biting, ice-cold Oslo fog, heavy exhaust fumes, and freeze-dried cocoa that tastes artificial. We can feel the grass between our toes and taste the beer in our mouths.
