THANK YOU!
We wish to thank our artists, visitors, sponsors and not least our amazing volunteers for the best Øya Festival ever. There were loads of incredibly wicked shows and an amazing overall vibe. This year’s festival was incredibly inspiring, and we are looking forward to start working on the Øya Festival 2010. |
DAY 3: ACTS FROM NEAR AND FAR
One can safely say that Thursday was dominated by acts from the so-called Loddefjorden scene. Fjorden Baby!, Ungdomskulen, The New Wine and John Olav Nilsen were all on the Thursday bill, which also contained acts from – among other places – Nigeria, Scotland, England, the US and Sweden. Here’s a report from the second festival day in the Medieval Park, which held everything from ardent Afro beat to art rock and a laser show. |

DAY 2: SUNSHINE AND RAIN
Jaga Jazzist, Bon Iver, Kåre & The Cavemen, Band of Horses, Vampire Weekend, The Bronx, Kylesa, Rise Against and Crystal Antlers. The first day of the Øya Festival 2009 had a little bit of something for everyone – also weatherwise. The Øya web editorial staff went to gigs all through the day—here’s the report.
CHECK OUT THE PHOTO GALLERY!
Are you wondering what the first day at Øya was like? Are you curious about what the 2009 edition of Jaga Jazzist looks like? Check out our photo gallery and have a look at some exclusive live and mood pics taken by the outstanding Øya photo team. Who knows, maybe you’re in one of ‘em! You’ll find the photos under Gallery on the menu to the left. |
AVOID THE QUEUE AT THE ENTRANCE
Being stuck in a line outside the festival area just as your favorite band goes on stage is never fun. If you have already exchanged your ticket for a wrist band, you can use our so-called Fast Lane and thereby avoid having to stand in line needlessly during the festival. The easiest way to exchange your ticket for a wrist band is to visit our ticket and accreditation stand on Youngstorget (right in the centre of the city) on Monday or Tuesday. There you will find a big tent and a lot of nice people standing ready to assist you. |

LAST CHANCE TO BUY DAY PASSES
As in previous years, the Øya Festival will be selling a small number of day passes at the entrance to the festival area. We do this as a countermeasure to black marketeering and to make a small offer to those who never got around to buying a pass in the first place. A minimum of 50 day passes will be put out for sale every day. These will be sold at the ticket stand outside the Medieval Park from 11 a.m. every day.
ECOLOGICAL FOOD AT THE ØYA FESTIVAL – THE TASTIEST ALTERNATIVE
For the seventh year in a row, the Øya Festival will be serving ecological food to its visitors. During the past two years only we have served 130 000 dishes of food made from 50 tons of ecological raw materials! New this year is the fact that the meat is delivered by our favorite butcher, Strøm Larsen at Torshov, Oslo. Check out our mouth-watering menu. There’s a lot of tasty stuff on it! |
NEW ONLINE MAGAZINE
The Øya Festival is finally just around the corner. This year we use a new online magazine solution to make it even easier for our music-loving audience to check out the artists that play in the park. In the magazine you can watch music videos, listen to audios, read about 21 Norwegian music talents, test our interactive guide and much more. |

KITCHIE KITCHIE KI-ME-O GIG MOVED TO NEW LOCATION AND DATE
Kitchie Kitchie Ki-Me-O is a new Norwegian dream team comprised of members from bands such as Ricochets, My Midnight Creeps and Madrugada—in other words, bands that have represented the best that Norwegian rock has had to offer over the past ten-fifteen years. Musically, there’s been given hints about grooves, mystique, African blues and European soul.
THE ØYA FESTIVAL COMMERCIAL TRILOGY IS NOW READY
TV-commercials are fun! The last part of our promo trilogy is done. Check it out here! |
THE ØYA FESTIVAL IS SOLD OUT!
Late last night (Friday Aug. 31) Billettservice sold the last tickets for Friday August 14, and that means that all the four days in the Medieval Park are now sold out. This year’s ticket sales have gone very well, ever since the first festival passes were made available in December. The public’s interest in this year’s festival and line-up has been amazing. We are now looking forward to four packed and exciting days of outdoor festival fun, plus loads of groovy stuff happening on Club Night, at Nighttime Øya and at Øya Cinema. |

BOOK SIGNING AT EGMONT DURING THE ØYA FESTIVAL
Good news for all of you comic book enthusiasts! Some of Scandinavia’s most popular comic book creators are coming to the Øya Festival in connection with launches of new releases. Lise Myhre (Nemi), Martin Kellerman (Rocky), Karine Haaland (Piray) and the duo Jamtli/Johansen (who are behind their new comic book Anunnaki) are coming to autograph during the festival. They will be doing this at the Egmont stand on Handlegata (Stand Street).
PRINTER-FRIENDLY PROGRAM
Many have requested that our program be in a print-friendly format—so here it is. Click on the ARTIST A-Z link in the menu on the left, and you will find several links to the print-friendly program for the concerts in the Medieval Park (including Camp Indie), the GSF Park and Nighttime Øya. In other words, it’s now even easier to plan your trip to the 2009 Øya Festival. Get started! |
THON HOTELS FESTIVAL PACKAGES
As in previous years, Thon Hotels will offer packages that include tickets and rooms. Are you coming from far away and lacking accommodation, or are you just hugely enthusiastic about hotel breakfasts and fresh towels? Thon can help you. Thon also has a few 4-day festival passes as part of these packages, so this may be the salvation for those who are desperate to see the whole festival—and sleep in a comfy bed. |

A FEW NIGHTTIME ØYA ADDITIONS
GARAGE: Moddi | ||
SLIGHT CHANGES TO THE CLUB NIGHT LINE-UP
The festival program went to press early, so there are a couple of artists who will perform on Club Night that weren’t included in it. We’ll give them a bit of space here instead. |
AGE LIMITS ON CLUB NIGHT
During this year’s Club Night there will be options for almost every age group. Here is an overview of the various age limits on Club Night. Club Night is free for everyone who holds a full festival pass, but the venues tend to fill up quickly so it’s a good idea to get there early. |
