Supersilent w/Nils Petter Molvær at Øya

Last year, Supersilent celebrated their tenth year as a band at Blå in Oslo, and among the guest artists was trumpet guru Nils Petter Molvær. Now they’ve decided to work together again, on the occasion of the Øya Festival in August. We’re truly happy to present this combination of talented Norwegian musicians to a large audience in the Medieval Park on Friday Aug. 8.

Supersilent consists of Jarle Vespestad (Tord Gustavsen, Farmers Market, Petter Vettre, and others) Ståle Storløkken (Veslefrekk, Bol, and others), Arve Henriksen (Christian Wallumrød, Jon Balke, Veslefrekk, and others), and Helge “Deathprod” Steen (Motorpsycho, Merriwinkle, and others) and plays a mix between rock, electronica, and jazz of different kinds. They’ve released a handful of albums on Rune Grammofon that all contain improvised music. Supersilent has made an approach both towards ambient and brutal noise. In other words, this is a band that knows how to tease and challenge its audience.

Nils Petter Molvær is among Norway’s most recognized musicians and composers in the soundscape between jazz and electronica. With a background in i.a. Masqualero, Jazzpønkensemblet [The Jazz Punk Ensemble], and Sidsel Endresen Group, he has proven an exciting and unafraid artist that included electronic elements in his music early on. As a solo artist he has won Spellemannsprisen, the Norwegian Grammy, for the albums ‘Khmer’ (1997) and ‘Solid Ether’ (2000). Some have attempted to dub Molvær “the Norwegian Miles Davis”. We’ll simply conclude that this’ll be one of the most exciting concerts you can go and see at Øya in 2008. In the Medieval Park you’ll get to witness a meeting between great musical forces. Both Supersilent and Molvær have, each on their own, delivered legendary performances at the Øya Festival. This year they’ll rendezvous to give an electrifying performance on a large stage, a happening that’ll gain attention on an international level.
