This year the Øya Festival is offering an innovation, just outside the festival area: In the GSF Skate Park at Dyvekes Bro, we have, in cooperation with the Juvenile Rock Club and Gamlebyen Sport and Recreation (GSF), established a new festival stage. Here there will be free entry for those with and without festival passes. There is no age limit for any day. The skate park will offer concerts and a skate tournament throughout the festival.

The girls in the Juvenile Rock Club, in cooperation with the Øyafestival and Gamblebyen Sport and Recreation, present the youth stage and a wonderful mini-festival in GSF Skate Park in Gamlebyen! There will be concerts, a skate tournament, food and fun each day during this year’s festival. Everything that happens there is free, and you don’t need a Festival or Day Pass for Øya to enter.

The Juvenile Rock Club is the most creditable youth rock club in Oslo. During the past two years they have had bands like Backstreet Girls, Dum Dum Boys, Heroes & Zeros and Big Bang on at Caven, an old bomb shelter located in the city district of Tøyen. JRC was started because three young girls noticed that there was a lack of venues where the youngsters of Oslo could go and see live shows, and they wanted to do something about it. The club’s upper age limit is eighteen – a revenge on all of Oslo’s other concert venues – but the Skate Park will for once be open to all.

GSF are a bunch of retired rockers and punks who in their time built the skate park, and provided for continued operation. Under the name Gamlebyen Sport and Recreation, they have managed to convince – and rightfully so – the local community that it is possible to influence their own living environment.

The Skate Tournament will run over all four days and end in a super-finale on Saturday, where the three lucky winners will be chosen. Outside of the tournament, anyone can skate in the bowls for what it’s worth – nothing is better than to skate during a concert, with speakers blasting only a short distance away!

Among other bands appearing in the Skate Park are Black Debbath, Fjorden Baby! and The New Wine, and you should not be surprised if some of the band members suddenly turn up in the bowl. It all takes place between 12.00 and 18.00, after which you will have the opportunity take a stroll down to the Medieval Park and enjoy the rest of Øya program!
