ØYA: GREEN 'N' CLEAN
In January The Øya Festival won the Green ‘N’ Clean prize at the first ever European Festival Awards, and is now officially the greenest festival in Europe.
The awards were presented at a gala ceremony that took place on Wednesday January 13th at the Grand Theatre in Groningen, The Netherlands, as part of the Eurosonic Noorderslag Conference.
More than 100,000 votes were cast online in the main categories, but this particular award was chosen by an industry jury and handed out in cooperation with the festival organization Yourope.
We are really proud and honoured to receive this distinction, and we truly appreciate that our ongoing work in this field is recognized. First and foremost, this award is a huge inspiration for the festival’s continuous focus on environmental issues.
Last December Øya was named Oslo’s greenest business in 2009 by Grønn Hverdag (Green Living), a network of people, groups and organizations working together to raise consciousness about environmental choices in everyday life.
