Kung Fu Girls reunite at Øya

kung fu girls

The Øya Festival has managed to get one of Norway’s greatest bands back on stage this summer. You’ll do well not to miss the exclusive reunion of Kung Fu Girls in August. For many years we have wanted to see this band back together, and for the first time since May 1995 they are now ready to deliver a kick-ass set of energetic, high-voltage rock. The band will be rehearsing like heck to be ready and in tip-top shape for their first gig in more than 13 years. We know that a lot of people are looking forward to this!

“I’ve wished for this ever since we started up back in 1999,” says Claes Olsen, head of booking.

KUNG FU GIRLS
One of the Norwegian acts from the 90s that we remember with great fondness is the pop punk band Kung Fu Girls. This winter, the Øya booking crew managed to convince the band to pick up where they left off. In August they’ll be on stage in the Medieval Park. Whether you’re already a KFG fan or not at all acquainted with the band, we can promise you a dazzling display of catchy rock. This band represents eternal summer and never-ending teenage frustration. We’re really looking forward to hearing “Maria Is Beautiful”, “Vinnie”, “Nineteen Years”, “So Much Better”, and all the other faves.
Kung Fu Girls released two albums, ‘This Is the Kung Fu Beat” (1993) and ‘Puzzle’ (1995). The band emerged from the same scene that has given us successful acts like Gluecifer and Turbonegro, and also faves like Astroburger and Anal Babes. Kung Fu Girls were inspired by fuzz pop and punk rock, and also made sure to add a dash of surf. In other words, this sweet as sugar for anyone hooked on acts like Buzzcocks, Blondie, or Lemonheads. In August, Kung Fu Girls will be back to give an exclusive performance, and expectations run sky-high among both the young and the not-so-young.
