ROBYN TO ØYA!
The last few years a lot of people have expressed wishes to see Robyn at The Øya Festival, and they multiplied after last year’s teaser performance with Röyksopp on their hit song The Girl And The Robot.
2010 will definitly be Robyn’s year, with three planned albums and an expansive tour in the works. We have tried to bring her here for some time now, and today – finally – we are proud to announce that she’ll play The Øya Festival this summer!
More big names will be added to the festival line-up every day this week. Tune in tomorrow for the next artist!
ROBYN (SE)
The last few years Robyn has grown into a real International Pop Superstar. Even though she’s experienced quite a comeback lately and gained a lot of new fans in the process, her story dates further back than the self-titled album Robyn (2005), her inspired cover of Teddybears’ Cobrastyle (2006), the featured spots on Kleerup’s With Every Heartbeat (2007) and Röyksopp’s The Girl And The Robot (2009).
Robyn debuted in her native Sweden back in 1995 when she was just 16 years old. The year after, she had big hits with the R&B-influenced singles Do You Really Want Me (Show Respect) and Do You Know (What It Takes), and the debut album Robyn Is Here. The latter went platinum when it was re-packaged and released in the US in 1998, and two of her singles, including Show Me Love from the Lukas Moodysson film Fucking Åmål, reached the top then on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.
Robyn released two more albums, My Truth (1999) and Don’t Stop The Music (2004) before parting ways with Jive Records due to creative differences. In 2005 she established her own label, Konichiwa Records, distributed through Interscope, and released her eponymous fourth album herself. The Rakamonie EP followed the year after. Robyn has promoted this material, released in Europe in 2007 and in the US in 2008, for quite some time now. She has also worked with Snoop Dogg and Britney Spears, and toured with Madonna. This year she’s finally back with new tunes! According to a recent interview with Bon Magazine, Robyn will drop no less than three albums in 2010. Snoop Dogg, Kleerup, Diplo, Klas Åhlund (Teddybears) and Savage Skulls are among the contributors.
Last year Robyn won a Swedish Grammis award for best live-act, a well-deserved honour according to recent live reviews both in Sweden and abroad. Friday the 13th of August, she’ll show all of us how a pop show is done at The Øya Festival!
