As far as debut singles go, not many can compete with the lyrical brilliance of Losing My Edge (2002). In a little less than eight minutes, front-man James Murphy used bitter and at the same time hilarious one-liners to describe how we all (people born before 1980, that is) felt when the internet-savvy youth caught up with us in both coolness and music knowledge in this new millennium. That’s Zeitgeist for you!

LCD Soundsystem’s full-length debut was released in 2005, and included other huge tuuuuunes, like Daft Punk Is Playing At My House and Disco Infiltrator, as well as an additional disc with previously released singles. The album was met with great, even ecstatic reviews. Two years later the follow-up, Sound Of Silver, garnered Murphy pretty much the same amount of praise. «Sound of Silver, his second as LCD Soundsystem, is as close to a perfect hybrid of dance and rock music’s values as you’re likely to ever hear», Pitchfork’s Mark Pytlik stated in his review, and gave the album an excellent 9.2 (out of 10) score. Both albums, and several singles, were on most best of the decade-lists recently.

James Murphy just finished his third album last week. He has already told the music press that this one will be even better than the last two, but is that even possible? We hope so, and we’re really excited to finally welcome LCD Soundsystem to The Øya Festival on Thursday the 12th of August. To quote one of the many great songs in the LCD catalogue: Yeah!
