2008 marks the ten-year anniversary for the most wicked rock album to ever come out of Norway, and if that ain’t an excuse to celebrate, we don’t know what is. Turbonegro will be celebrating their classic album ‘Apocalypse Dudes’ at Øya in August, playing the whole thing from beginning to end. Some of the songs haven’t been performed live in years. TURBONEGRO PERFORMS ‘APOCALYPSE DUDES’

Ten years ago, one of the greatest works of dark, destructive rock’n’roll was unleashed upon the world. ‘Apocalypse Dudes’ has since then grown into a humongous cult phenomenon, and stands today as a perfect collection of amazing punk rock pearls. The album, Turbonegro, and the myths surrounding both have sky-rocketed, and ‘Apocalypse Dudes’ stands as a monumental milestone at the midst of the boys’ nearly twenty-year long career. It was with the songs on this album that Turbonegro took a decisive step up from the underground. During the Øya Festival, the band will perform this classic album in its entirety – which means that you’ll be steamrolled over by a dazzling and unequalled parade of punk rock schlägers. The death punk masterpiece was recorded only a short walk from the Medieval Park, in the now closed-down Endless Studios in the city district Grønland, and one of Turbonegro’s earliest rehearsal places was located only a short distance from the Medieval Park. Now it’s time to bring ‘Apocalypse Dudes’ back to the east side and onto the Øya Festival’s main stage!

The album’s cult status across the globe is continuously confirmed, as it time and time again is pointed to by artists and critics alike as one of the highlights of the 90s. It is one of three Norwegian albums included in the highly comprehensive volume ‘1001 Albums You Must Hear Before You Die’.

‘Apocalypse Dudes’ was Turbonegro’s fourth full-length album, and opened the doors to a much larger audience when it came out. A few months later, however, the band broke up due to drug-related problems, a turn of events now well-documented. After the guys got back together in 2002, it’s been the ambience and the sound on this album that many fans have longed for. Anyways, we agree with Turbo-fan and former lead singer of Dead Kennedys, Jello Biafra, who said the following when the album came out: “The new Turbonegro record is possibly the most important European record ever.”

Later this year, Turbonegro will release a deluxe edition of ‘Apocalypse Dudes’ in connection with the ten-year anniversary.
